Well it seems that most of my friends are an avid fan of Chee Cheong Fun. So this is especially for you guys here.. Here are some recommendation of Chee Cheong Fun (using CCF as short form from here onwards) that you can get in Malaysia. I got 4 up on my sleeves. 2 out of them are those you can't get easily.
But before that, do you know what CCF really means? In Cantonese it literally means "pig intestine noodle". Due to its long and narrow form, it is called CCF as it looks like pig's intestine. But don't worry, no pigs were harm in the process of making it. Only flour were used. Just like "Lou Shu Fun".
Starting to feel hungry? First stop of the day, the most common Chee Cheong Fun
Hong Kong Styled Chee Cheong Fun

This CCF is often served with
soy sauce (kicap) and
sesame seeds. (just like the photo above) You can have a choice of
"char siu" or
prawn as the fillings in the CCF. However some may opt to eat it with
sweet sauce (it may be black or red depending on the place you eat it). Also, I have eaten this type of CCF served with
dry "sambal udang kering" and soy sauce. Guess Malaysian just like eating spicy stuff huh?
But I personally didn't like it very much. Don't know why..Where to get it? Well most of
dim sum restaurant has this type of CCF. The nearest to MMU will be in
Seri Kembangan or
Equine Park.
Penang Chee Cheong Fun

Probably the best photo take you will see as it is taken from the internet. ^.^ The first time I had this CCF is during my recent
Penang trip. Eventhough I had been to Penang numerous times, I never had this before. ^.^ This CCF is really different from the HK CCF. Firstly, the
texture itself is different. It is more
"crunchy" and feels like eating a
"kuih". Secondly it uses
"he koh" (hokkien) sauce. "He koh" is the
thick black sauce that you add before eating laksa. So all in all, I will prefer Penang CCF rather than HK CCF.
Where to get it?Since it is named Penang CCF, so definitely you will get it only in Penang. Uniquely a Penang food.
Menglembu Chee Cheong Fun
Before you get confused, Menglembu is the name of a town in Perak. It is not a "kata kerja" like MENGgaji or MENGkaji ya.. I stayed in this super small town for two years before moving to Teluk Intan. It is near Ipoh by the way. So what so special about this CCF? No matter how many time you look at it, it is still PLAIN white tasteless processed flour. But that's not all.. Look below.
Now this is the same CCF, but this time with a mixture of
Pork Skin Curry and
Wild Boar Curry (Babi hutan) on top of it. This is the only place where you get to eat
"babi hutan" (as far as I know) and it does taste a lot like pork.
Not a fan of pig? No worries. They also offer you a choice of
sotong, chicken curry. Don't like curry? No worries. They also offer a
choice of sambals to go with it.
(sotong, petai, ikan bilis) Can't take hot and spicy food? Again.. no worries. They also have the
black sauce. But different from those HK sauce, this sauce is
thicker and it is also delicious.
Still got problem? Don't eat then. =pWhere to get it?Menglembu la semestinya. Don't ask for the shop name. I don't know. But I can bring you there. ^.^
Teluk Intan Chee Cheong Fun
Teluk Intan.. My place of birth.. So I had been having this CCF since I am small. What is so special about this CCF is that is
doesn't have any sauce to eat with. Only
green chilies (it is not spicy at all - taste sour) to eat with if you want to. Everyone in my house like eating it with the green chilies but it is not the case for me. I like to eat it just like that. Like eating the original taste. ^.^ So it is
quite dry but the CCF
itself already has all the taste that you want. So what is all the
black black thing I see? Well that is actually
"udang kering",
"mengkuang" and
pork. Definitely the best CCF that I ever had, you must come to Teluk Intan to eat it. There is
no other place in the world that you can get it. So why wait? Join the
Perak trip (to be announced soon) and you will have to chance to eat it fresh from the machine! ^.^
